At our recent storytime, Ms. Ayesha brought joy and inspiration to the room with readings of Shady Baby by Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade, Make It Fashion by Emory McClure, and Memory Jars by Vera Brosgol. These vibrant stories sparked laughter, curiosity, and meaningful conversations about embracing individuality, creativity, and the value of memories.
In a heartfelt discussion, two amazing local moms shared how they intentionally fill their children’s bookshelves with stories by Black authors and those that center Black experiences. From historical treasures like Jambo Means Hello to imaginative works from Black Sands Entertainment, they emphasize representation and cultural pride in their parenting journeys.
The moms also shared valuable information about a weekly support and conversation group for Black women called Voice of the Village: A Sacred Space for Black Women. This supportive gathering is hosted by Painted Brain every Wednesday from 7 PM to 8 PM, starting October 13, 2021. It’s a powerful space to connect, share, and grow together.

📚 Parents and caregivers: Let’s keep building libraries and communities that empower our children to dream big, think critically, and embrace their heritage.
