The 2020 Tournament of Roses president, Laura Farber was our special guest at Chocolate Storytime. She is the first Latina and third woman president of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Foundation. Farber shared the Rose Parade theme, “The Power of Hope” and brought a poster to spoke about all of the special meanings behind each letter’s graphic in the word, hope. She shared about her story of joining the Tournament and all of the events and activities that she has been involved with. Laura also talked about her childhood in Buenos Aires, Argentina and mother’s grit and determination that helped to inspire her theme. She spoke lovingly about her husband Tomás López, who is from the Dominican Republic, and their 2 children. Laura read in both Spanish and English, and the children and parents were very engaged! Afterwards, Girl Scout, Alicia Randall, led the kids in constructing their own float out of marshmallows and toothpicks. Laura helped them with their creations, and later walked around and asked each person to share their inspiration. She listened intently, gave positive feedback, and congratulated them with a special high five. As she does at all community events, Laura came early and stayed until the very end, talking to the parents and children and community members, and just sharing all of her goodness.
